About Us

All of the cats at River Kitty begin their adoption journey at the Vanderburgh Humane Society, a non-profit organization.

In November of 2019, the Vanderburgh Humane Society purchased River Kitty Cat Cafe from its original (and fabulous) founders, Annette Gries and Nancy Drake. Since then, it has been an off-site adoption hub and non-profit program of the VHS.

Every dollar you spend at the cafe goes towards caring for homeless animals in our community. We house about 20 cats at the cafe who are all up for adoption. When one finds a home, we bring another from the shelter—Creating more space at the VHS and allowing us to save even more cats!
